 SHEFFIELD ENVIRONMENT WEEK 2008 - PARENT/CHILD SOLAR SCIENCE WORKSHOP. 6-60+. Venue to be announced. 3rd May 2008.

CPD TEACHER/HOME EDUCATOR WORKSHOP

NEXT WORKSHOP IN APRIL, 2008. Experience our educational method [incorporating ‘trial & improvement’] that focuses on applications of science, maths and D&T concepts - supported by our unique car/boat resource and curriculum materials. Workshop tasks will provide a framework for the following outcomes: 1. Awareness of and the applicability and benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies as a result:- energy and cost savings. 2. Experience the educational value of renewable and energy efficiency technologies. 3. Value of educational method that focuses on gaining knowledge, understanding and skills through real life application of scientific and mathematical concepts. 4. All participants to gain some personal benefit. 5. Participants be entertained and have a sense of enjoyment. 6. Awareness raising and be informed with regard to key areas of concern and action to be individually taken with regard to climate change.

Qualifications & Curriculum Authority

The Qualifications & Curriculum Authority [QCA] considered the SOLAR-ACTIVE model solar car/boat used in EPSRC Engineering A Better World Solar Detectives Case Study to be an inspiring way to help pupils “transfer knowledge and skills between different subjects to develop pupils’ engineering skills in a cross-curricular context.” The inspired engineering experience was supported by an education method [incorporating ‘trial & improvement’] and curriculum materials created by SOLAR-ACTIVE.
